On Tuesday, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the media following Sunday’s big win over the Cincinnati Bengals, and the hot topic was the quarterback position. Tomlin had plenty of praise for Mason Rudolph and his play.
Tomlin went on and on about Rudolph’s comfort and communication with the team, the confidence he has in himself and his willingness to remain aggressive. Tomlin highlighted Rudolph’s long touchdown to wide receiver George Pickens on third-and-short as Rudolph’s willingness to be aggressive outside of the scheme and situation.
The first two games Kenny Pickett missed, Tomlin had Mitch Trubisky in the starting lineup and the offense went nowhere. The offense looked completely different with Rudolph running the offense. Tomlin didn’t seem at all surprised by this, which makes one wonder: If Tomlin really felt Rudolph was so capable, why not start him over Trubisky three weeks ago?
Tomlin also said in the press conference that Rudolph would prepare as the starter for Week 17 against the Seattle Seahawks but the health of Pickett would determine who starts.
