Steelers have 22 starters but they are still 2 short

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and general manager Kevon Colbert held their pre-draft press conference on Monday and addressed the announcement that the Steelers had officially re-signed safety Terrell Edmunds to a one-year contract.

According to Colbert, the return of Edmunds gives the Steelers 22 veteran starters and the draft will bring competition.

But this isn’t entirely true. The Steelers have 22 starters but the truth is the team needs 24. On offense, the Steelers third wide receiver is very much a starter and will spend far more time on the field than say a fullback. As of right now, that third spot on the depth chart is beyond questionable and must be addressed early in the draft.

On defense, it is all about the slot cornerback. Pittsburgh has a lot of cornerbacks. Ahkello Witherspoon, Levi Wallace, Cameron Sutton, Justin Layne, Arthur Maulet and James Pierre are all on the roster and there will be three of them will be on the field. But is there a true slot cornerback on the roster? I would say no. This is a player who has to be able to drop and cover, defend the run and even rush the quarterback at times. Yes, we all miss Mike Hilton.

Let us know in the comments if you think the team has all 24 guys and if not, let us know who you would fill those needs within the draft.
