Steelers emphasis on 2-minute offense in training camp pays off in win

For the second preseason game in a row, the Pittsburgh Steelers marched down the field late in the game to score a game-winning touchdown. Last week it was rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett leading the charge and this week it was veteran Mason Rudolph.

In his post-game press conference, head coach Mike Tomlin acknowledged this and noted the extra volume of work in the two-minute drill played right into this sort of success in the games.

There are a lot of benefits of the two-minute offense in terms of tempo. This is especially true when the offensive line is struggling. This is why last season Ben Roethlisberger had his best success when the team went up tempo and used a two-minute pace to keep the defenses off balance. Based on the success we’ve seen in preseason, whoever ends up being the starting quarterback, Tomlin should consider using this concept heavier in the regular season as the offensive line improves.
