There was no reason that cornerback Cory Trice Jr. should have been on the board for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL draft. But he was and the long, athletic cornerback was a bargain of a pick who is already impressing coaches and teammates at OTAs.
But Trice’s personality keeps him humble. He spoke to the press after practice on Tuesday and he made it clear that all the chances he’s been getting at practice have been earned and his focus is just on getting better.
Trice and fellow rookie Joey Porter Jr. have been very impressive throughout OTAs and look like they could be the future of the position for the Steelers. Trice played his college ball at Purdue and is a near-physical clone of Porter. The two of them bring elite speed and measurables to the position. Trice shouldn’t have any problems locking up a spot on the 53-man roster if he keeps playing like this.
