Sons of the Forest early access is live now, or it would be if the horror game’s launch hadn’t broken Steam. The long-awaited sequel from Endnight Games entered early access instead of launching in a finished form, but the demand for it was apparently high enough that Valve’s servers couldn’t handle the load.
While the site is (mostly) functioning as normal for other purchases, if you try buying Sons of the Forest, you get a range of potential errors. The site crashes completely sometimes, or it won’t add the game to your cart. If you’re lucky enough to get it in your cart, you probably won’t make it to checkout without seeing some other error or a full crash either.
Sons of the Forest only just launched in early access, so Endnight and Valve haven’t acknowledged the issue or outlined a solution yet. Meanwhile, horror fans are flooding Twitter and Reddit with memes and videos about the problem. Despite the frustration of the situation, most of them have been good-natured in tone.

One Reddit user even said it’s a good thing for the developers.
“Lets be real crashing steam is every developers [sic]dream,” they said in a post. “Hats of [sic] to the Team!”
Others agreed, but said it might be nice if Steam could just be prepared for major launches and avoid these situations to begin with.
