Stay in Lake District gem named 'one of the best' by Good Hotels Guide

As we reach autumn and winter, many of us will be on the look out for a cosy staycation that's close to home for the perfect break.

The Forest Side in the Lake District has won 'The Best Country Hotel of the Year' and has been recognised for its 'Michelin-starred cuisine, elegant bedrooms'. The AA Rosette awarded restaurant offers the ultimate cosy escape in the village of Grasmere.

The hotel sits nestled amongst a 'forest canopy' at the foot of the Lake District fells. Set in a Victorian mansion, it was previously a private home which now gives guests the perfect base for a staycation.

It features 20 guest bedrooms across three different categories including Cosy, Superb and Master. Each room is decorated to a 'typical British country style' with a 'modern twist'.

The rooms offer 'stunning views' of the grounds with high-ceilings and French windows for added character. The Forest Side is also dog friendly in six rooms, and the property can be booked for private celebrations and even weddings.

As well as cosy rooms, the popular hotel also includes a Michelin-starred restaurant with tasting menus from head chef Paul Leonard. The menu features 4-course and 6-course lunch menus from £55 per person and £85 per person.

One of The Forest Side’s most popular features is its Victorian garden that grows a variety of fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs used to infuse locally made gin, vodkas, whiskeys and rums.

The Forest Side is just over a two hour drive from Liverpool that will require less fuss than hopping on a plane. Find out more about The Forest Side here.
