Stay Close fans convinced outfits gave away killer's identity in Netflix hit

Netflix fans are convinced they've spotted a clue that gave away who the murderer was in the first episode of its new series Stay Close.

The mystery drama series, based on the 2012 Harlan Coben novel of the same title, dropped on the streaming platform on New Year's Eve and it's got everyone talking.

The eight-part minishow follows Megan Pierce (played by Cush Jumbo), a woman who appears to be living a picture-perfect life with her fiancé, Dave, and their three children.

But when Lorraine (Sarah Parish), an old friend, delivers some shocking news, the past comes back to haunt her, and see her getting caught up in a missing person investigation.

As the case blows open, it is revealed, in a shocking twist, that Lorraine had killed the vanished men.

But a few people say it was clear she was the killer from the beginning - because of the outfits she wears.

One fan shared the theory on Reddit, where they pointed out how Lorraine wore purple in nearly every scene - a colour that has negative meanings like conceit, corruption and mourning.

They wrote: "This is just an observation I made and I'm here looking to see if anyone else noticed it. The character of Lorraine seemed to wear the same colours in a lot of her scenes - yellow and purple.

"It became a mild thing for me - each new scene she'd be in, I'd want the camera to pull out to see the entire outfit. Often enough, it would be purple and yellow.

"Anyone else notice this? I know Broome didn't because he didn't notice much."

Another fan explained the colour theory further, using other series like Breaking Bad and Better Call saul to back up their point. They commented: "My [girlfriend] picked up on the purple as well. My theory is similar to the colours of Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul - Broome wore Blue, like Kim Wexler and Skyler White, because he was a detective and represented the law.

"Red represents the criminal world/murder. If you mix red and blue colours, you get purple. She was kind of like Marie in BB who always wore Purple because she was caught between two worlds, her husband Hank who was a part of the law and her sister Skyler, a part of a criminal family.

"Lorraine was caught between two worlds, her criminal world or murdering men, and her love for Broome, the detective. Purple was a clue to her being the killer. At least that is my theory."
