Nottingham City Council has issued a statement after many people queried why they have not yet received their £150 Energy Bill Rebate. The Government announced earlier a '£150 council tax energy rebate' to help to mitigate the costs of rising energy bills to households in council tax bands A-D.
The rebate is not a reduction in the amount of council tax you are required to pay, but a £150 one-off payment to be made directly to a person liable to pay council tax subject to qualifying criteria. Yet people in Nottingham are wondering when they will receive theirs and the following statement has been given.

A City Council spokesperson said: “We are working hard to ensure our residents receive their Energy Bill Rebate as quickly as possible and we expect to be able to provide an update in the next few days confirming when payments will start to be made.
"We will be prioritising residents who pay their Council Tax by direct debit before opening an applications process for those who do not and for whom we hold no bank details.
"Like many councils, we have had to make significant changes to our IT systems in order to make these payments and these changes have needed to be tested to avoid the kind of problems we have seen elsewhere in the country. Government guidance means that actual payments must be made to Council Tax payers rather than simply crediting Council Tax accounts which would not have required these changes.”
