Queensland's State of Origin side has been based on the Gold Coast for training camps in the lead up to the first two games of the series.
But on Saturday night came the announcement the final game would be played on the Gold Coast too.
Staff, groundskeepers and vendors at the stadium have been rushing to prepare for what they expected to be a full house.
"We are pinching ourselves. It's the pinnacle (of rugby league)," said Kristian Blundell, Manager of Robina Stadium.
"The time frame's not ideal but it doesn't matter, we're preparing.
"We're really excited to have it here on the Gold Coast."
Extra staff have been flown in from Townsville Stadium to help.
Tickets only went on sale on Tuesday, but the game is expected to sell out.
"We're expecting over 27,000 people," Mr Blundell said.
Origin police blitz
Police Acting Chief Superintendent Rhys Wildman said 70 additional officers would be working on Origin night.
The police presence on the border will also be ramped up.
"This may be an incentive for people to try and run the gauntlet around our border operation. We are we just highlighting that we will be increasing those operations in coming days," Acting Chief Superintendent Wildman said.
The grounds are ready
Phillip Burke, Grounds Manager at the stadium said final touches were being made to prepare the field.
"It should be a fast track, that will be good for some free-flowing football. There'll be some slight dew but it shouldn't affect the game."
Mr Burke said he never expected Origin to be played on the Gold Coast.
Mr Burke hopes playing on the Gold Coast will be good luck for the team.
"They've gotten used to the field here, hopefully, they can turn it around and stop the whitewash."
Teenager Ben Wiggins was shocked to hear the State of Origin would be played on the Coast, but says he was excited to witness history.
"I'm pretty excited, don't need to make the trip up to Brisbane," he said.
He trains and coaches at the Robina Raptors Rugby League Football Club, just a couple of hundred metres from the stadium and has high hopes of a Queensland win.
