State grants for pollution, illegal dump cleanup available for Kentucky counties

The state Division of Waste Management is accepting applications for pollution cleanup grants from counties across the state.

One will award grant funding to clean illegal open dumps, and another will help fund litter cleanup along public roads.

““We think that's mainly just because of the topography,” Assistant Director Gary Logsdon said. “There's just a lot more places that somebody can find back in a holler that nobody can see to dump their waste, whereas in a more flat area, there's not as many opportunities for that kind of thing.”

Last cycle, nearly one million in dump cleanup grants and more than five million in litter cleanup grants were awarded, with the division cleaning 80 dumps across 18 counties. But Logsdon

“What we tend to see is the same counties using this program over and over again, which is great,” Logsdon said. “Those are counties that need it and we're happy to help them. We'd love to see more counties across the state take advantage of this grant.”

The application deadline for both grants is November 1. Information from counties can be found by emailing lisa.evans@ky.gov or calling 502-782-6355.
