A starved dog with an amputated tail has been discovered dumped on a Scots street.
The brindle lurcher was found by a member of the public on Meadowhead Road in the Craigneuk area of Wishaw, North Lanarkshire, on Tuesday, May 17.
The emaciated pooch was handed over to Scottish SPCA teams at a nearby Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre.
The malnourished animal had long nails and stitches around the stump of its tail, which officers believe was recently docked.
The dog's chip details give an address in Newcastle, but inspectors believe the information is out of date and that the pooch may have come from the Bellshill area.
The charity is appealing for anybody who may recognise the animal to come forward.
Scottish SPCA inspector, Jack Marshall, said, “The dog is a male, brindle lurcher.
“He is in very poor condition and his tail appears to recently have been amputated.
“The dog is chipped to an address in Newcastle but unfortunately these details appear to be out of date.
“We believe that he may have come from the Bellshill area.
“We are urging anyone who recognises this dog, or has any information to please contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
