Start-up marketing agency reveals ambitious plans to double staff and sales

A marketing agency which only launched a year ago has announced plans to double its headcount in the next 12 months and see its turnover pass the £1 million mark.

Altitude Marketing, which is based in the Charnwood Forest, near Loughborough, was set up by co-owners Laura King-Berry and Tom Bates, who had worked together on a number of projects whilst based at different companies.

Tom contacted Laura partner when he was looking to expand another growing digital marketing business – called Studio Attico. At the same time Laura had grown her freelance client base to a point where she needed additional support. After meeting for a coffee, they decided to form Studio Altitude – more commonly known as Altitude Marketing.

After a trial-run the agency was officially launched in January 2022, and they said it had far exceeded their expectations. Their predicted forecast for the first year of £100,000 actually became £500,000 and they expect to reach £750,000-£1 million by end of 2023/2024 and £3 million in the next three years.

The team has grown from a workforce of two to nine in a few months – with plans to reach at least 20 by the end of the year.

The five-year plan is to take team numbers to more than 40, and due to unexpected speed of growth the business has taken space in a barn conversion at Bawdon Lodge Farm, on the outskirts of Loughborough.

Altitude offers services ranging from social media to PR, advertising, branding, SEO, website development, photography and videography.

Tom Bates said: “This year has totally blown my expectations out of the water, it just feels like everything I’ve learnt in the last 16 years of working with other projects is coming together to make an incredible mix of people and business.

“Working with Laura is brilliant, we are scarily so aligned on things it’s like we know what the other is thinking before they do. I’m super excited for 23/24 and working with this brilliant team.”

Laura King-Berry said: “Having the time to stop and reflect on our first year was quite overwhelming, what we have achieved, created and experienced has been incredible.

“The team I get to work with every day have become like family, the relationships we have built with our clients have been truly unique and I still can't quite believe we have launched our own podcast.

“Mine and Tom's partnership has grown into a really strong friendship and I am honestly grateful to be on this journey with him, we have the same values and passion for what we do and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for Altitude.”
