Starstruck judge Adam Lambert defends Adele over Las Vegas cancellation

Adam Lambert has passionately defended Adele’s decision to back out of her Las Vegas residency gigs hours before the show – while some fans were mid-air over the Atlantic en route to see the star live.

The 40-year-old Starstruck judge has experience of working a residency himself as part of Queen + Adam Lambert who held a 10 date residency in Sin City back in 2018.

Adele had been due to kick off a residency of her own last month, but the 33-year-old pulled out at the eleventh hour amid concerns about Covid – and later claims she had been unhappy with the staging of the show.

Describing Adele as ‘honest and vulnerable’, Adam said he completely understood her decision to pull the plug on her residency shows at the last minute.

He told The Sun on Sunday: “Any artist who has toured understands that sometimes certain things are out of your control. She accidentally got into a situation where the show just wasn’t ready.”

Adam continued: “I feel, as I’m sure Adele does, that the fans and their experience is what the show is for.

“If the artist is not comfortable with what they are putting out on stage then that affects what the audience gets as well.”

Adele had been due to appear at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace from January 21st for a string of gigs titled Weekend’s With Adele.

But she cancelled hours before her first show and postponed all her dates – to the fury of fans who had spent thousands on flights, hotels and tickets for her cancelled gigs.

The star herself frantically contacted fans directly via video call to apologise – while also invoking damage control as her usually pristine reputation took a serious hit.

Despite the debacle, reports have suggested Adele will continue to rake in a fortune this year despite her Vegas gigs getting postponed to an unspecified future date.

Gifts are on sale in a pop up boutique in Vegas in support of the shows that have not yet happened.

Last month it was reported that sweatshirts embroidered with lyrics from her hit songs, including Rolling in the Deep, were on sale for up to $110 (£80).

Varsity jackets emblazoned with patches inspired by the Hello hitmaker’s career, such as patches representing the names of her albums, were also for sale, alongside $50 (£37) T-shirts.

And fans looking for a more refined piece of merchandise could opt for a chic necklace, and depending on their relationship status, they could opt for ‘Hello’, ‘Married’, or ‘Divorced’.

Fans could even pick up a bottle of plonk, choosing from a red or a white and were able to personalise the bottle in store, inspired by Adele’s hit from her latest album 30, I Drink Wine.

Starstruck airs on Saturday nights at 8:30PM on ITV and ITV Hub.
