Starstruck host Olly Murs delights viewers as he lets slip big news on show's future

Olly Murs delighted fans of new talent show Starstruck as he let slip news of its future before Saturday night's finale.

There was a lot of interest and curiosity about ITV 's new primetime talent show ahead of its launch back in February, with the first episode coming after a build up which saw teaser adverts air for weeks ahead of the premiere. The premise of the show is that, in a similar vein to Stars in Their Eyes, soundalikes of big name music stars transform into their idols and take to the stage to belt out a classic track.

The big difference between Starstruck and Stars in their Eyes is that the new show sees three doppelgängers of the same singer perform at the same time, with the judging panel deciding which trio were the best, before choosing just one to advance through to the final.

It's been the job of judges Jason Manford, Beverley Knight, Adam Lambert and Sheridan Smith to whittle down the contestants and on Saturday, April 2 the winners of each weekly heat took to the stage once again for the series final, but before opening titles had even rolled on the last episode, the show's host Olly Murs took to Twitter with some big news for those who've been tuning in every weekend.

In what was meant to be a teaser tweet for the finale, former X Factor star and The Voice coach Olly let slip there will be a second series. He wrote: "In the words of Elvis I just wanted to say “thank you very much” for an epic series! We will see you all for season 2 but who will win #Starstruck tonight?! tune in tonight 8.30pm @ITV to see who."

A fan replied: "Wow Olly what am amazing show tonight is can't decide who is going to win such a close call . Going to miss starstruck being on next week . Roll on series 2," with another responding: "Loved the series, looking forward to the next one - hopefully same host and judges."
