Stars who have undergone hair transplants

Becoming follicularly challenged is something many may worry about as they age.

From receding hairlines, to bald spots, a lack of hair is something which can make people feel conscious.

But there are treatments which can be undertaken now to help with these issues, including hair transplants, and many famous faces have made full use of them.

From footballers, to singers, to TV personalities - here are a list of the celebrities we know who have opted to have a hair transplant to transform their looks and locks....

Rio Ferdinand

Former Manchester United legend turned pundit Rio Ferdinand is one of a long line of former footballers who have opted for help to thicken their head of hair.

The defender recently underwent both a hair and beard transplant with doctor to the stars Dr Cinik and was happy to have his story shared on his website.

The doctor said Ferdinand was struggling with a receding hairline and underwent a DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) method without shaving.

He had 1,000 grafts hair transplanted into his temples and 850 grafts into his beard to to make it denser.

Another footballer who opted for the services of Dr Cinik is Brazilian legend Rivaldo.

The World Cup winner had bald patches and a receding hairline and opted for the FUE technique.

He had 4,000 grafts of hair implanted under local anaesthetic.

Bacary Sagna

The Arsenal league winner was famous for his dreadlocks, but his favoured hairstyle caused him issues.

Sagna had to tackle early-stage baldness and traction alopecia due to his dreadlocks, which thinned his hair density.

He ended up having 2,000 grafts implanted.

James Nesbitt

Northern Irish actor James Nesbitt has had not one, but two hair transplants, and has even spoken about the difference it made to his life.

He told how he no longer inspects his hair constantly as a result of balding and thinning patches.

Elton John

Elton John has been open about his hair-transplant surgery, even speaking about the procedure in his memoir.

He started is career in the 70s with hair down to his ears but, as the years went, on found himself struggling, with his receding hairline and thinning mop.

Elton John got a FUT hair transplant, which involves the surgeon extracting an entire strip of hair and then transplanting it to the area that’s experiencing hair loss.

Wayne Rooney

Another former footballer in the mix, England and Manchester United star Wayne Rooney, has had a hair transplant.

He even took to social media to share his news when he first had it done, writing on the then-Twitter: “Just to confirm to all my followers I have had a hair transplant. I was going bald at 25, why not? I’m delighted with the result.”

Boy George

Boy George was one who was inspired to have a hair transplant by a footballer.

On his appearance on I’m a Celebrity in 2022, he revealed that he had a hair transplant to combat his hair loss.

He said he did so after feeling inspired by Wayne Rooney and his successful-hair transplant surgery.

Ben Stokes

England test cricket captain Ben Stokes went to the Wimple Clinic in Harley Street, London, for his hair transplant.

He even spoke on promotional videos for the clinic and said he would highly recommend the surgery to anyone who is suffering.

Rob Holding

The former Arsenal and Crystal Palace man went to the Wimpole Clinic to undergo a hair transplant.

He said: “I struggled so much with my hair and self-confidence. Wimpole Clinic treated me so well and I am so happy with the results, I could not recommend them enough.

The defender had 2,600 grafts transplanted.

The former Liverpool and Dortmund manager had a hair transplant and now sports a full head of hair.

He has been open with his decision, regularly saying he has been left “happy with his results”.
