Stardust survivor appeals for cherished photo's return after it goes missing at vigil

A Stardust survivor has spoken about her family's pain following the disappearance of a beloved family photo.

Antoinette Keegan was at the Stardust nightclub on the night of the fire in February 1981. She eventually recovered from her injuries on the night of the disaster but lost her two sisters, Mary and Martina, in the tragedy.

Families hosted a vigil last week to mark the 42nd anniversary of the fire. The vigil took place on the site of the Stardust Memorial in North Dublin, with photos used to honour the 48 people who lost their lives.

However, Antoinette's family realised later on that Mary's photo was not among those collected up after the vigil had ended. Its disappearance has deeply upset the Keegan family and they are appealing for anyone who may have it to return it safely.

Antoinette told Dublin Live: "They could have taken it as a memento or a mistake, but it's precious to us. It's sacred ground down there- the photo was on the memorial wall and that is where they all died."

The photo itself is quite large and weather resistant, as the frame is made out of aluminium. It depicts a thoughtful Mary, who was just 19 when she died.

Antoinette adds: "If someone did take that photograph deliberately, it's pure evil. All the families have suffered enough as it is and we need the photo back."

Anyone with information on the photo's whereabouts can get in touch with Antoinette via Facebook.
