Star Wars Jedi: Survivor – release date, how to preorder and everything you need to know

Star Wars fans are eating well this year. The hotly anticipated third season of Disney+ series The Mandalorian is set to drop in March, and a brand-new Star Wars video game will follow closely behind.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, an open-world action-adventure set in a galaxy far, far away is coming to consoles and PC this Spring. Announced in January 2022 as the sequel to 2019 hit Jedi: Fallen Order, it follows Cal Kestis, one of the last remaining Jedi after their near extinction following Order 66.

Now no longer a Padawan but a powerful Jedi Knight, Cal continues his crusade against the Empire. He will discover new planets and familiar frontiers in the Star Wars galaxy, each with unique biomes, challenges, and enemies, as well as mastering new skills, equipment, and abilities that will augment the ways players explore, fight, and roam, with larger areas to explore and more to discover off the beaten path.

The game’s official synopsis reads: “The story of Cal Kestis continues in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, a third person galaxy-spanning action-adventure game from Respawn Entertainment, developed in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. This narratively-driven, single player title picks up five years after the events of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and follows Cal’s increasingly desperate fight as the galaxy descends further into darkness.

“Pushed to the edges of the galaxy by the Empire, Cal will find himself surrounded by threats new and familiar. As one of the last surviving Jedi Knights, Cal is driven to make a stand during the galaxy’s darkest times – but how far is he willing to go to protect himself, his crew, and the legacy of the Jedi Order?”

Jedi: Survivor’s innovative lightsaber combat system will see some improvements, with five fighting stances that players can use, including the returning single blade, double blade, and special dual-wield single blade attack. There is also a brand new, heavier crossguard lightsaber stance based on that of Star Wars sequel trilogy villain Kylo Ren.

Players will be able to utilise a new Force ability to freeze new and familiar enemies and blaster bolts in mid-air, previously seen in action by Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens. So if you’re keen to pick up your lightsaber once again in a battle against the dark side, here is when and how you can pick up Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
