Porthcawl described as 'beautiful' by Star Wars actor just weeks after someone else said it was a 's***hole'

The seaside town of Porthcawl has won the heart of famous actor Steve Speirs, who has appeared in Star Wars and, more recently, The Tuckers. It comes just weeks after it was described by someone else as a "s***hole where rats go to do drug deals" in a stand-up Comedy Central Live show.

Speirs recently visited the town for his event: "An audience with Steve Speirs", as he tours the country talking about his career. The Welsh actor is originally from Troedyrhiw, a village now in the borough of Merthyr Tydfil, and went to school at Afon Taf High School where he found a taste for drama.

The actor whose credits include Star Wars, Episode 1- The Phantom Menace, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, was also supported by up and coming talent from the local community in the show, which took place on February 10. Describing his time in Porthcawl, he said on Twitter: "A MASSIVE thanks to all who came to my ‘Audience With’ in Porthcawl... amazing crowd. And a big shout out to The Butterfly Guest House and @GaryRandle16 and Becky for hosting me. A beautiful place to stay by the sea- I'll be back."

It seemed that lots of people also enjoyed the event, with the person who hosted him in his guest house replying to Steve's tweet saying: "You’re more than welcome, anytime, great to see you and have you stay with us! Great night too."

And it seems that people are already wanting more. Another person said: "Have you anymore nights planned?"

Someone else also commented: "Had a fab night."

Porthcawl is no stranger to hosting events, as well as having some famous people come to visit. When Thaniya Moore made her "s***hole where rats go to do drug deals" comment, it resulted in the town's residents jumping to it's defence as they pointed out what Porthcawl really had to offer.

Sean Bingham, owner of Breaking Waves Gift shop in John Street, said: "People are proud and don't see it as a s****y little town. I don't. You look at the sun rises and sunsets you get here- you could be in the Costa or Barbados."
