Star Wars 9 theory 'reveals' shock Anakin Skywalker return

The Chosen One who will bring balance to the Force?

The Star Wars saga has been built around heroes destined for greatness.

From the classic trilogy's Luke Skywalker ( Mark Hamill ), to going back in the prequels to his father Anakin Skywalker ( Hayden Christensen ), and more recently, Rey ( Daisy Ridley ) in the sequel trilogy.

However, with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker set to bring the story of the Skywalker dynasty to a close, we could be about to see the greatest hero achieve his destiny and bring balance to the force (again).

According to Reddit user TROAnakinSkywalker , the appearance of actor Hayden Christensen at the Star Wars Celebration earlier this year was an indication of his continued involvement in the franchise.

Kevin Smith also mentioned on his set visit how:  "I wept on set because I saw somebody give a career-best performance. Somebody I’ve seen in these movies before. I rolled a tear, it was so darn powerful."

The user continued with the theory, believing: "A great way to tie the 9th film back in with the prequels, would be to show how Anakin Skywalker rises and finishes out his story arc by fulfilling the Chosen One's prophecy and actually bringing balance to the force.

"Yes, he turned back to the Light side and killed the Emperor in ROTJ, but did that really bring balance to the force? The Jedi and Sith had been killing each other for thousands of years.

"To truly bring balance to the force, the Chosen One would have to bring the Light and the Dark sides of the Force together in mutually beneficial, sustainable balance. That seems to be what Luke was talking about in TLJ too."

What do we think?

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is released in UK cinemas on December 19, 2019.
