Renowned actor Kenneth Mitchell, recognized for his diverse roles in popular TV shows and movies, has sadly passed away at the age of 49. Mitchell succumbed to complications of ALS in Los Angeles on Saturday, as confirmed by his family to The Hollywood Reporter.
Throughout his career, Mitchell left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry with his memorable performances. He notably portrayed multiple characters in Star Trek: Discovery, including Kol, Kol-Sha, Tenavik, and Aurellio across three seasons. Additionally, he appeared as a young Captain Marvel's father in Marvel's Captain Marvel and as WWII flyer Deke Slayton in ABC's The Astronaut Wives Club.
Described as a kind-hearted individual with a penchant for laughter, Mitchell was cherished by many for his generosity, compassion, and ability to bring people together. His infectious positivity and love for storytelling endeared him to all who knew him.
Born in Toronto, Canada, on November 25, 1974, Mitchell's acting career took off with his role as professional ice hockey player Ralph Cox in Disney's Miracle in 2004. He later gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of Mayor Eric Green in CBS' Jericho and more recently as Joe in FX/Hulu's The Old Man.
In 2018, Mitchell received a devastating diagnosis of ALS, a progressive neurodegenerative disease. Despite the challenges he faced, he continued to showcase his talent in various projects, including The Old Man, Nancy Drew, and See, where he appeared in a wheelchair.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Mitchell found love with actress Susan May Pratt, whom he met on the set of Showtime's Charms for the Easy Life in 2001. The couple's on-screen chemistry blossomed into a real-life romance, leading to their marriage in May 2006. Together, they shared two children, Lilah and Kallum.
