Former Nottingham Forest striker Stan Collymore believes Steve Cooper needs a "full and frank" conversation with Evangelos Marinakis during the World Cup.
Cooper signed a new three-year contract this week amid speculation that his time at the City Ground was coming to an end. His team sit bottom of the Premier League with just one win from their opening eight games.
On how Forest should be moving forward over the coming months, Collymore believes Cooper needs to sit down with the club's hierarchy and trim his first team squad so it is "sane and sensible". He has also backed Cooper to "fly" in the next one to two years.

"Now Steve Cooper has signed a new three-year deal at Nottingham Forest," Collymore said, "I hope he can sit down during the World Cup with the ownership and recruitment team and have a full and frank conversation about what they are all trying to achieve.
"What I’d love for him to say is, 'Right, I have identified the 15 or 16 players I want to work with and these are the ones I don’t want already'. From that group, he will hopefully then know the players who best fit his system and the partnerships that work.
"Then, whether they stay up or not, he has earned the right to still be in the job at the start of next season. I’m convinced that, either way, with a sane and sensible squad, we will really see Cooper fly in the next year or two."
