Stagecoach investigating bus fire on road between Coupar Angus and Dundee

Stagecoach says it is investigating the cause of another bus fire, this time located on a stretch of the A923 between Coupar Angus and Dundee.

Two fire appliances were called to the blaze near Tullybaccart at 7.26am last Friday (December 23), with a hose used to extinguish the flames.

There were no injuries as a result of the flames, but an investigation into the cause will be carried out.

A spokesperson for Stagecoach East Scotland said: “We can confirm that there was an incident involving one of our vehicles, no injuries occurred.

“Safety is our number one priority and we will be investigating the incident.”

Police Scotland also attended the scene to help divert traffic.

A number of fires on buses have been reported in Tayside and across the rest of Scotland in recent years, drawing major concerns over the safety of the Perth-based operator.

The most recent prior incident, in January, saw a double decker bus catch fire on the A90 near Inchture when transporting children to Perth High School.

Emergency services rushed to the shocking scene where all passengers were evacuated safely off the vehicle before it was reduced to smouldering remains.

The school children were taken to the local golf centre before being transported to the school on a replacement service.

The company, based on Dunkeld Road, says bus fires are “relatively rare”.

It is currently engaging with a UK Government investigation covering all bus operators.
