Staff tear down picture of Ryan Tubridy in Dáil canteen after 'disgraceful' RTE pay scandal

Ryan Tubridy has suffered a fall from grace in Leinster House after former fan staff said they would be tearing down pictures of the broadcaster from a prominent position in the canteen in the wake of the RTE pay debacle.

Mr Tubridy visited the Dail campus many times in the past and was well-liked by staff there.

He was a particular favourite among catering staff and a picture of him posing for a selfie with a group holds pride of place behind the till in the main canteen.

However, it seems Mr Tubridy has lost the confidence of many of the important and vital workers, who are rightly regarded as the pulse of Leinster House.

One source told the Irish Mirror how disgusted they are with their former radio pal and how the pictures of ‘Tubs’ won’t be lasting long in Leinster House.

“It’s disgraceful, he bloody well made a fool out of all of us paying our licence fee.

“I’ll be tearing down that picture behind us here (at the canteen till), the amount of people that have commented on it, it’s awful embarrassing.

“He’s taken us for eejits, it’s not as if he wasn’t getting paid enough already, but he’s lost it now, he’s lost his fans.”

Another respected Leinster House worker doesn’t think Mr Tubridy will ever have the same level of respect from people after the controversy over RTE's secret payments broke.

She said: “I don’t know if people want to hear him back on the radio at all.”

Mr Tubridy has personal connections to politics and the Dail, with his two first cousins, Chris Andrews and Niall Andrews, a Sinn Fein TD and Fianna Fail TD respectively.

And closer to home, his own brother, Garrett, has had a go at a politics himself in the past, running as a Fianna Fail candidate for the local elections in 2009.
