Staff Picks: Predicting the final score for Saints vs. Bears

The New Orleans Saints are widely favored to take care of business with the Chicago Bears on Sunday — but are we buying the hype? Our staff writes shared their final score predictions for Week 9’s matchup at the Caesars Superdome:

Saints 27, Bears 10

The Saints are better than this team, and the absence of Justin Fields should help the saints defense. Now the most prominent matchup for the Bears offense is DJ Moore versus Marshon Lattimore. If the Saints win that matchup, the Bears offense shouldn’t be able to move the ball consistently. The New Orleans offense will continue their momentum offensively with a 100 yard receiving game from Chris Olave. — Darrion Gray

Saints 21, Bears 17

Matthew Hinton-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bears’ addition of Montez Sweat certainly makes things interesting in the trenches for this week. With a very up-and- down performance from the Saints offensive line this season, I expect some pressure off the edges between Sweat and Yannick Ngakoue. Never mind the other defensive standouts on the Bears like star cornerback Jaylon Johnson. — Jeremy Trotter

Saints 30, Bears 20

These teams aren’t even in the same atmosphere; the Saints have underwhelmed at times this season, but they haven’t been as bad as the Bears, even at their worst. Chicago’s offense is barely functional outside some nice plays from the running backs. Their defense isn’t performing as well as a unit handcrafted by the head coach ought to. The Saints may play down to their competition this week, but they should end the day with a commanding lead. — John Sigler

I think the Saints will be able to handle themselves against a struggling Bears team without Justin Fields. It’ll all be about how they handle the Chicago run game, so this will be a nice test for the defensive front. The offense could use this game as another stepping stone and confidence builder after their best performance of the season last week. — Dylan Sanders
