Staff left shaken after Lanarkshire bookies held up at gunpoint

Staff at a Hamilton bookmakers in were left shaken when a masked robber threatened them with a firearm before making off with cash.

The incident happened at around 6.50pm on Saturday at Ladbrokes in Hamilton 's Burnbank Shopping Centre on Burnbank Road.

The suspect stole a three figure sum of cash before he is believed to have run off in the direction of Ann Street in the South Lanarkshire town.

He is described as white, 5ft 8in height and of slim build.

As well as carrying a dark rucksack, he was wearing a face mask, dark upper clothing, light coloured trousers with dark patches, light coloured footwear, a baseball cap with his hood up.

Staff members were uninjured, however, they have been left shaken up by what happened.

Detective Sergeant Clare Curley told Lanarkshire Live: "Officers are checking CCTV and carrying out local enquiries, but would also appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time to get in touch."

Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact police on 101.
