A Gower holiday park has started offering staff ten minute 'ice cream breaks' as well as their usual stops during the day, to help them deal with the heat of the summer months.
Three Cliffs Bay Holiday Park sits on the cliffs above the bay of the same name, next to the village of Penmaen, and is hugely popular with holidaymakers. But making sure all those guests have a great time can be quite stifling in the hot weather, so the park owner, Tom Beynon, decided to do something to help.
Speaking about the recent heatwave across Wales in July, Mr Beynon said: "In that extreme heat, we found that our staff were getting hot and flustered so we were building an ice cream break into the day- just some time to have an ice cream and a bit of fresh air and enjoy the sunshine that we were having." He explained that the family business employed a lot of younger staff who worked at the park through their summer holidays and that it was important to show them that they were appreciated, with small gestures like this which, he said, worked really well. Three Cliffs Bay Holiday Park went live with its 2023 bookings this week and has already taken a record-breaking amount of 700 bookings in the first twelve hours, with more than 4,600 nights booked in. Mr Beynon said he credited this surge in bookings to a recent article by The Times which named Three Cliffs as the best beach in Wales, which you can read more about here.
