Stacey Solomon felt 'weird' trying on wedding dresses as she's 'not the Virgin Mary'

Stacey Solomon has admitted she put off picking her wedding dress because it made her feel “weird”.

The 32-year-old, who is currently engaged to Joe Swash, revealed the process made her “feel funny” because she’s “not the Virgin Mary” in an admission to her fans.

Stacey and Joe got engaged over a year ago and are now planning their dream wedding day.

Loose Women star Stacey told fans she spent Monday trying on dresses with her sister's support.

The bride-to-be had her dress options specially flown in from Northern Ireland and took to her Instagram to share with followers some of her favourites.

“Honestly I’ve had the best day ever,” she told her online fans.

“I’ll be honest, I’ve been putting this off, This is the first time I’ve tried anything on. I don’t know why but it was making me feel so funny.

“I think because I’m not the Virgin Mary or something," she said, perhaps in reference to her teen pregnancy with her then boyfriend Dean Cox.

Stacey has previously spoken about feeling a sense of shame when she fell pregnant with son Zachary at the age of 17.

After splitting with her partner, she went on to have second eldest son Leighton with ex fiancé Aaron Barham.

"It was making me feel all weird. So I just decided to try some dresses on at home, just me (& my sister popped by after school run).” [sic]

“And I’ve never felt more special than today. Wedding dress, toes up to that,” she wrote alongside a snap of her making a “thumbs up” with her big toe.

She later posted a carousel of snaps on her main feed because she “never wants to forget today”.

Alongside snaps of her beaming in the mirror with her sister Jemma, the telly star gushed that she “never wanted to forget this feeling” after an emotional day.

“Today I Choose My Wedding Dress,” she said.

“And I never want to forget this feeling… I’ve been putting it off I think because the more I got excited about it the more silly I felt for some reason…

“I started feeling really conscious about not being, well I don’t know.”

But Stacey reassured fans she wasn’t getting wedding jitters, before they mistook her words.

“I wouldn’t have done life any other way EVER. I’m so grateful for how it turned out and I genuinely believe everything happens for a reason. But I suppose sometimes those old-fashioned narratives make you feel that way don’t they?”

The former X Factor sensation told how she’d enjoyed a wonderful day with her sister.

“I decided to try my dresses on, at home with just me not making a “thing” of it. But it turns out it felt like the hugest “thing” ever,” she wrote with a sobbing emoji.

“My sister dropped the kids back from school and popped up and we both ended up emotional messes. I loved every single second of today, trying them on, imagining seeing Joe for the first time, feeling the veil on my shoulders & seeing the glitter sparkle as I moved around.”

As special and beautiful as the bridal gowns were, Stacey revealed that they weren’t quite right.

“None of these are THE dress but I took this picture to remember how excited I felt today. And no matter who, how or what way around you do it, it’s the most special moment ever.”

Stacey had her dress options specially flown in from Northern Ireland and on her stories she wrote a special thank you to “two angels who were the only dress shop that had some of the dresses I’d seen that I loved”.

Stacey went on to explain: “They circulate through stores for the trunk show and they only had them for two days… and for those days they brought the dresses here to Pickle Cottage all the was from their small boutique in Belfast… How incredible are they.”

She sent her love and gushed over Mariam Callister and Helena Gildernew from Belfast bridalwear shop Verona Bridalni.

Although we don't yet know the exactly date the couple are getting hitched, a few weeks ago she said it's three months away - meaning the wedding is to take place in July.

So with the weeks ticking by, telly personality has work to do.

The mum-of-four had previously been set to tie the knot last summer, but her plans were put on hold when she fell pregnant.

They have the perfect venue for their nuptials – and the after party is set to be in the back garden of their family home Pickle Cottage.

Stacey has been engaged to Joe since he popped the question on Christmas Eve in 2020 after five years of dating.

The couple have two children together – with their son, Rex, born in May 2019, and their baby daughter, Rose, arriving in October last year.

Stacey shares her eldest son, 14-year-old Zachary, with her ex-boyfriend Dean Cox and her second son, nine-year-old Leighton, with her ex-fiancé Aaron Barnham.
