Oban Saints 0-3 St Patrick's FPs
Saints deservedly made the long trip home from Oban with all three points in the bag on Saturday.
There was a lively start from both teams and in the first 20 minutes both could have scored.
First, after a rare mistake from McColl, Oban striker Green found himself through on goal with only Gallacher to beat, but he was denied by a terrific save from Saints number one.
Next up Ciaran McElroy looked on in disbelief as his 25 yard free kick rattled off the Oban bar.
Saints were beginning to gain the upper hand in the midfield and eventually took the lead in the 21st minute when Wallace stood his defender up before curling a beauty into the corner of the net.
Shortly after taking the lead, Saints had Brian Gallagher to thank for keeping the score at 1-0 with a big save after poor defending on the right hand side of the Saints defence.
Saints doubled their advantage in the 31st minute when Paterson bulleted his header from eight yards into the Oban net from an excellent delivery by Doherty.
Only another four minutes passed before Saints scored again and all but finished the game as a contest.
The goal was a bit of a disaster for Oban keeper McGregor who let a Liam Rowan shot from 20 yards squirm under his body.
In the second half Saints were wasteful in the final third on numerous occasions to make the scoreline reflect their dominance and they finished the game a bit frustrated after missing an 89th minute penalty.
Craig Coleman was fouled in the Oban box but as Liam Rowan stepped up, the goalkeeper guessed correctly and saved the spot kick.
However saints coach Zander Diamond was happy with what he saw from his side.
The former Aberdeen defender said: “We are delighted to pick up the three points in a tough away fixture.
“We prepared well and were at it from the first whistle which reflected the scoreline at half time.
“A slight criticism would be that we didn’t add more goals in the second half because of our decision making in the final third but we are really pleased to keep a clean sheet.”
