St Mirren vs Rangers score predicted by simulation as Light Blues seek to alleviate pressure

Rangers will be looking to build on Wednesday's Scottish Premiership victory when they face St. Mirren on Saturday afternoon.

After their disappointing 2-1 loss to St. Johnstone last weekend, the pressure was on Rangers as they sat seven points behind Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic. But Malik Tilman scored the only goal of the game on Wednesday night when the Gers edged past Hearts with a 1-0 win.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst cannot afford to drop many more points in the title race, with Celtic having won 13 out of 14 games so far this season. The Light Blues have a fantastic record against St Mirren, with their last league defeat against Saturday's opposition falling back in 2011.

So, could Rangers pick up a win against St Mirren on Saturday afternoon? We used FIFA 23 to try and predict the score. To complete this simulation, we used FIFA 23 and updated the Rangers squad with the latest injuries and suspensions.

St. Mirren vs Rangers score predicted by simulation

We predict that Rangers could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: McGregor; Tavernier, King, Davies, Barisic; Lundstram, Tillman, Arfield; Matondo, Morelos, Kent.

We predict that the hosts could set up in a 3-5-2 formation, with their line-up as follows: Carson; Fraser, Gallagher, Dunne; Strain, Kiltie, O'Hara, Erhahon, Tanser; Ayunga, Main.

Rangers were dominant in the opening stages of the game, and after just 15 minutes, the Gers found themselves 2-0 up at the SMiSA Stadium thanks to a neat double from Alfredo Morelos. The striker's first was the easiest of the two - a case of being in the right place at the right time, Morelos tapped into an empty net when John Lundstram struck the post in the fifth minute.

His second required incredible skill, though some shabby marking from the hosts allowed the opportunity to fall Morelos' way. A deep free-kick was sent into the box by James Tavernier, and with no defender near him, the Colombian striker volleyed the cross into the far corner of the net.

Morelos was proving a real handful for St. Mirren, with the hosts struggling to mark the striker. And, on the stroke of half time, he grabbed his and Rangers' third of the afternoon to take the game away from the Saints.

Some fantastic footwork from Ryan Kent saw the winger cut in from the left and surge through the middle of the pitch, evading multiple challenges along the way. As some space opened up for the Englishman, Kent picked out Morelos inside the box, and on the turn, the striker wrong-footed the 'keeper and found the net.

Rangers had a very quiet afternoon defensively, with the hosts rarely threatening the Light Blues' defence. Rangers kept the game at their own pace in the second half, but they managed to extend the lead to four just before the full-time whistle through Kent.

Rangers were finding success through the middle, with Kent often floating into the centre of the pitch to receive the ball. As Tilman received the ball just outside the box on the right, his lifted pass into the area was controlled by Kent before the winger curled around the 'keeper for 4-0.
