St Mirren international round up as Alex Greive notches first goals for New Zealand

Saints striker Alex Greive enjoyed a memorable first start for New Zealand after grabbing a clinical brace.

The Buddies forward lined up for his second cap against North Caledonia as the Kiwis continue their qualifying campaign for the 2022 World Cup.

And the 22-year-old made an instant impact, firing in the opener just nine minutes into the first half - his first ever goal for his country.

The pacey forward was involved in New Zealand's second, after being tripped in the box to allow Logan Rogerson to slam home from the penalty spot.

And his eventful first half didn't stop there, with Greive soon adding a second just before half-time as he raced onto a through ball before slotting home.

New Zealand went on to win comfortably 7-1, with the country now progressing on to the Oceania Qualifiers semi-finals.

Elsewhere St Mirren midfielder Alex Gogic featured for Cyprus in their Nations League clash against Estonia.

Picking up his eighth cap in the process, the 27-year-old helped them battle to a 0-0 draw.

Cyprus face the same opponents again next Tuesday, as the pair battle to avoid relegation to League D.

Former Buddies striker Ross Stewart was forced to wait for his Scotland debut after remaining an unused substitute in a 1-1 friendly draw with Poland, in which ex-St Mirren star John McGinn was captain.

The in-form Sunderland hitman will be hoping to pick up his first cap when Steve Clarke's side take on Austria in Vienna next Tuesday.
