St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson feeling positive ahead of Kilmarnock trip and admits Mark O'Hara mistake

Stephen Robinson insists top-six St Mirren ended 2022 on a high note by making their point at Livingston. The Buddies wrapped up an incredible year with a 1-1 draw at the Tony Macaroni Arena on Wednesday night.

Curtis Main cancelled out Cristiano Montano’s opener in a game which saw Livi’s Scott Pittman and Saints skipper Mark O’Hara sent-off.

Buddies boss Robinson knows the chance was there for his side to take full advantage following Pittman’s first-half dismissal but recognised the dynamics shifted once O’Hara headed up the tunnel.

Nevertheless, Robinson admitted a point in West Lothian was not to be sniffed at as he savoured the club’s best start to a Premiership season since 1988.

He said: “We’re very pleased with a point as this is a really difficult place to come to. No one comes here and turns Davie’s [Martindale] teams over.

“It’s our best start in 34 years to a season so that’s a real positive. It’s a reflection on the game that we come away disappointed that we didn’t utilise the 11 v 10 situation better.

“We didn’t move the ball as quick as we wanted to and ultimately we made poor decisions at times on the ball. We were actually very good when we went down to 10 men.

“There are lessons in that but overall we take the point and we’re very, very happy with it. We will go into the Kilmarnock game on Monday positive.”

Robinson admits O’Hara could have been protected from his red card. The manager explained: “We knew Mark was walking a bit of a tightrope.

“With Ethan Erhahon, we took him off at half-time against Aberdeen on Saturday and that was the right decision. We didn’t make the right decision here.”
