St Mirren announce partnership with University of the West of Scotland

St Mirren have announced a landmark partnership with the University of the West of Scotland.

The two Paisley institutions will work together to develop the relationship between sport and academia in Scotland.

A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed by both the club and the university to see students involved in the football club to gain industry experience.

The deal has been struck in order to achieve two goals set out by the partners; "to enrich the learning and research opportunities available to UWS students and staff, and to support St Mirren improve standards across all facets of the club."

As part of the partnership, St Mirren will fund two research projects. The first, an MRes will aim to assess hoe effective the psychosocial player development programme at the club has been. The second, a PhD, will attempt to provide long-term, personalised support to the academy staff in delivering the programme.

Dr Mark Carroll, lecturer in sport at UWS, added: "This collaboration with St Mirren is a fantastic opportunity for our students and staff to engage with the professional sporting world in a meaningful way.

By working together, we can create a dynamic learning environment that enhances our students' education and research experiences, while also contributing to the success of St Mirren Football Club.
