St Mirren 0 Kilmarnock 0: Sides can't be separated as Ayrshire side bag first away point

Kilmarnock bagged their first away point of the season in a goalless stalemate in Paisley.

The Ayrshire side couldn't find a way past St Mirren, with both sides feeling they could have won the match.

Killie made two changes from their lineups against St Johnstone and Hearts with Ryan Alebiosu and Joe Wright coming in for Lewis Mayo and Ben Chrisene.

Ash Taylor had a fantastic chance in just the third minute when a crossed was whipped into the six yard area, but he fluffed his lines and headed well over.

Jonah Ayunga ran in behind the Killie defence well after nine minutes, but he ran into an angle that was too tight and Zach Hemming saved well with his feet to deny the Saints striker.

Returning Alebiosu tried his luck from 20 yards after a nice run in the 22nd minute, but the curling weak foot effort trickled wide.

Curtis Main worked well to get a shot away from 25 yards, and it was blocked out for a corner for the hosts which was inches away from being the opener as a header was fired narrowly wide.

Blair Alston attempted to fire a long range effort home on the half hour mark, but Trevor Carson was equal to the shot and parried it down well.

The hosts had a fantastic to take the lead in the 34th minute as Ryan Strain smashed a shot towards goal from the edge of the box, but Hemming saved well and a strong hand fired it out for a corner.

Main had the best chance of the half as it was finishing when he found himself with a free header six yards from goal, but somehow he steered his effort wide.

Kyle Lafferty had an incredible chance within 15 seconds of kick-off in the second half as he found himself one-on-one, but he couldn’t beat Carson who stuck a leg out to stop the effort.

Dan Armstrong looked to grab the opener from distance in the 52nd minute, but his shot flew narrowly wide.

Rory McKenzie had a wonderful opportunity to break the deadlock just after the hour mark as he received the ball inside the area, but Carson again came to the rescue – as he did once more when Jordan Jones fired an effort from the rebound.
