St Michael's Hill to remain closed until Saturday after water main bursts near Bristol Children's Hospital

A key road near Bristol Children's Hospital will remain closed until this weekend after a water main burst this morning (June 20). Bristol Water engineers arrived at the incident to discover that the burst water main had caused significant damage to the road, cracking the surface.

In a recent update, the water company has confirmed that until Saturday, June 24. A diversion will be in place for motorists amid the closure.

Although the hospital was not affected, some local people were hit by low water pressure and supply issues following the burst. All customers were reported to have full water supply back by just after 1pm.

Bristol Water said in an update at 3pm this afternoon: "St Michael's Hill will need to be closed until Saturday the 24th due to the burst main causing extensive damage to the road. A road closure and diversion has been put in place so our crew can work safely.

"We are sorry for any delays caused to your journey during this time. Thank you for your patience."

Crews from Avon Fire and Rescue Service were also called to the incident. A spokesperson said: "Crews from Temple were called to reports of flooding affecting the road surface at 4.54am.

"On arrival, crews found a burst water main which had caused a crack in the road surface. Crews worked to divert the water away from the hospital entrances.

"Bristol Water were also in attendance and were able to isolate the leak. Traffic diversions were put in place, which remain for a time to allow the water to dissipate."
