St Johnstone WFC head coach Grant Scott hopes for big crowd in final home game of the season

St Johnstone WFC put on an entertaining show in their penultimate home league match of the season.

And head coach Grant Scott hopes the exciting 1-1 draw will entice those in attendance back for more on Sunday afternoon.

Saints shared the spoils with Boroughmuir Thistle thanks to Morgan Steedman’s cool first-half opener and now attention turns back to the Riverside Stadium. Stirling University are the visitors for a 2pm kick-off.

“We’re really grateful to people who support the women’s team,” Scott said.

“It was a decent game last week to host a hospitality day for club sponsors as both teams were really going for the win.

“The match was high standard with a lot of good football on show. Anyone who hadn’t been before, hopefully they will come back.”

Reflecting on picking up a point, Scott added: “It was probably the right result overall, but we’re a wee bit disappointed.

“Boroughmuir are a team we haven’t beaten in the league yet - and we had a real good chance.

“I was pleased with the performance. The players really took pre-match information into play.

“We looked a threat in that first 45 minutes and we put the pressure on. We were maybe unlucky not to get a second.”

Saints are limbering up to face a Stirling University side who lost 7-0 to Dundee United last weekend. The visitors sit bottom of the Scottish Women’s Premier League 2.

“You need to look at the context of their defeat,” Scott noted. "They were playing against a Dundee United side who are scoring goals for fun.

“Seven is quite sore but United have that in them against any team. I don’t think Stirling will be greatly affected by it.”
