St Johnstone striker Nadir Ciftci reiterates 'up for the fight' message ahead of huge Dundee game

St Johnstone striker Nadir Ciftci has stressed the importance of putting the team over personal accolades.

While the recent arrival would love to open his scoring account against rivals Dundee tonight, he sees the bigger picture.

And that means doing his all to help Saints to a much-needed three points to haul them off the bottom of the Scottish Premiership.

The struggling Perth side can leapfrog their Tayside neighbours with a victory at McDiarmid Park.

“To get your first goal is important, but more important is to win the game for the team,” Ciftci said.

“If I score or not, it is more important to get the team out of this situation and climb up the table.

“Hopefully goals will come for myself anyway. It’s always good to play in front of your own fans.

“The manager has given me this chance. A special thanks to him. He has been patient and has given me the chance to show myself.

“I’m settling in, definitely. The guys are good and it feels like one family. We just need to be able to carry this on the pitch as well.”

Saints slumped to a Scottish Cup fourth round exit at League Two Kelty Hearts on Saturday.

It was a 10th consecutive defeat in all competitions and massively disappointing, but Ciftci is confident that everyone is ready to fight.

“You need to get the lessons out of the game from Saturday,” he said. “It was not good enough to lose that game.

“We are all up for the fight. We had a good chat after the game.

“We have to stick together and fight on the pitch for the fans, ourselves, everyone connected with the club.

“We know what we need to do on Wednesday.”

Ciftci added: “Everybody is up for it. Nobody is happy at being in this situation.”
