St Johnstone seek to keep momentum as blue shorts switch up is set to stay

St Johnstone’s bolt from the blue has been paying off.

And the kit change is going to stick until the end of the season, manager Callum Davidson has confirmed.

The Perth side introduced a blue shorts option for the 2-1 McDiarmid Park victory against Hearts back in February.

They have since been used on numerous occasions, with the only defeat while wearing them at home to Rangers.

The all-blue attire picked up a point at Easter Road before the most recent back-to-back wins against Motherwell and Livingston respectively.

Those valuable victories have handed Saints a lifeline in their quest for automatic Premiership survival.

Currently sitting 11th, the gap to nearest competitors St Mirren and Aberdeen is six points ahead of Saturday afternoon’s trip to league leaders Celtic.

Whether the full blue kit is utilised in this fixture remains to be seen, but Perth fans should expect it to reappear.

Kit man John McDougall is getting the credit for the change-up.

“That was John the kit man,” Davidson smiled. “He suggested we go all-blue and we won the game (Hearts).

“I do like it so we’ll be sticking with it until the end of the season.

“John is pleased as well because he doesn’t have to get the mud out of the white shorts!”
