Cammy MacPherson is relishing a return to his former employer.
And the determined midfielder insists he is purely focused on proving to himself that he can shine in a St Johnstone jersey.
MacPherson penned a permanent deal from St Mirren last month having, initially, been recalled to Paisley after agreeing a pre-contract.
But Saints quickly moved to make sure the 23-year-old was available for the Premiership battle.
Now he is excited about the prospect of lining-up at the SMiSA Stadium tonight and would certainly not mind bagging the winner.
“I’m looking forward to it, obviously,” MacPherson said with a smile. “I’m going back to the club I had been at for around six years.
“It will be nice to go back and play against them. There were no problems when I left. It was a great bunch of boys and I got on well with the coaching staff.
“I’m not really trying to prove anything to anyone else. I’m trying to prove to myself that I’m good enough.
“I’m not thinking about what St Mirren are going to think. I’m just focused on playing for St Johnstone.
“I’ve not really watched St Mirren since I left but they have had a couple of good results recently. It should be a good game.
“I’m going to be here for the next two and a half years so I really want to cement my place in the team.”
MacPherson’s past couple of months have, frustratingly, been stop-start due to the aforementioned contract situation and a groin issue.
He went under the knife to resolve the problem and has since returned to full fitness.
“During the international break, I injured my groin when I was training,” MacPherson recalled.
“I played a couple of times but it got to the point where I couldn’t train or play anymore. I had to get the operation.
“It was during December when there were a lot of games so it wasn’t the best time.
“It was my first operation. It was only a 20-minute procedure and I feel fine now. I have put that behind me and I’m fully fit. Hopefully I can get a run of games again.”
A second-half substitute on Saturday, MacPherson is targeting an extended run in the team to help lift the club up the Premiership standings.
Ten-man Saints – Melker Hallberg was ordered off – battled to a well-earned 0-0 draw with Dundee United.
“I thought we were good in the first half,” MacPherson said. “I wasn’t sure if it was a sending off and it was maybe harsh.
“But when we went down to 10 men we showed some good desire and grit to get the point. We maybe could have even nicked it.”
