St Johnstone injury update on David Wotherspoon, Chris Kane and Tony Gallacher

Callum Davidson has provided an update on injured trio David Wotherspoon, Chris Kane and Tony Gallacher.

Wotherspoon (knee) and Kane (knee) missed a considerable amount of the 2021/22 season.

And left-sided wing-back Gallacher fractured his leg against Livingston at the beginning of April.

“Spoony is on track but it will still be into September at least before he’s back,” Perth boss Davidson said.

“We know he’s got the World Cup to aim for when he’s back but it will be important to make sure he’s 100 per cent ready when he plays again.

“It’s not going to be in anyone’s interests for him to push it too early and suffer a setback, so he will have to be managed properly.

“Chris Kane might be a little bit earlier than that, but the season will still have started before he’s fully fit and ready to play games again.

“He is doing really well with the physio and can’t wait to get playing again, but again it’s another one who has to be managed properly.

“Tony Gallacher is the same as Kano, he should be back once the season starts.

“And Callum Booth is another one who has an injury to overcome.

“So that’s both left sided defenders out, which leaves us a bit short in that area for the season starting.”

Saints will be active in the transfer market ahead of next season but Davidson admits at times patience is required.

He said: “It’s very important we get our recruitment right this summer.

“We are looking for quality to bring in to make sure we have a better season next year.

“Bringing in that quality, players who are ready to go straight into the team, is what we’re looking for.

“Those few weeks after the season ends are always the same, it’s a frustrating time for a manager because you want to get cracking and get everyone signed up.

“But players have had a long, hard season and are off on holiday with their families and thinking about their options, so it’s difficult to get answers.

“We are desperate to get that four or five new faces we want in but at this time of year you have to be patient to get who you want.

“The conversations are all happening, the offers are being made - it’s just a case of waiting for answers now.”
