Super sub Zak Rudden scored with one of his first touches as 10-man St Johnstone battled to a point against St Mirren, writes Samuel Porritt.
A tight first half of football had ended poorly for Saints when Daniel Phillips received a red card.
Reduced to 10 men, the Perth side still managed to take the lead with 15 minutes remaining. Rudden guided a beautiful header over and beyond Trevor Carson.
Saints were soon pegged back, though, with Alex Gogic’s nodded effort drawing the visitors level - and that is how the game would finish.
The result leaves Callum Davidson’s men eighth in the table, four points off of the top six.
Davidson’s side lined-up in his preferred 5-3-2 formation, with the only change to his starting 11 from the victorious trip to Tannadice being the introduction of Andy Considine who returned from his suspension.
Remi Matthews retained his position in goals, with captain Liam Gordon, Alex Mitchell and the aforementioned Considine - who had replaced James Brown - at the back. Adam Montgomery and Drey Wright were in the wing back roles.
Cammy MacPherson and Phillips continued their successful pairing in the middle of the park, starting their sixth consecutive game together, alongside Melker Hallberg.
Stevie May, fresh off the back of his Tannadice heroics, partnered Nicky Clark in attack.
Saints started the game on the front foot and had the first chance of the game just 30 seconds in.
Some quick attacking play from the hosts saw the ball land at Clark but his volley from just outside the area flew marginally over the bar.
St Mirren soon countered with a chance of their own when Southampton loanee Thierry Small jinked past Gordon on the edge of the box and blasted his strike just wide.
Matthews was soon required to claw out Ryan Strain’s deep cross from finding the top corner of the net.
Saints went close to scoring 37 minutes into the match, following a fast counter attacking move.
May and Clark combined before sending Montgomery through down the left. He skipped the challenge of Strain and crossed to the back post.
May headed the ball goalwards but Carson was on hand to tip his effort over the bar.
Saints were then reduced to 10 men just before half-time. Phillips was initially booked by referee Craig Napier after catching Ryan Flynn’s ankle, however, the yellow was upgraded to a red after a VAR check.
St Mirren came out into the second half on top. Using their extra man to their advantage, a Tony Watt cross into the box was guided goalwards by captain Mark O’Hara. His effort took an awkward bounce past Matthews but wide.
Wright was first to have a glimpse of goal for Saints after the break. He threw himself at a Hallberg cross but was foiled by Charles Dunne, who deflected the ball behind for a corner.
Phillips’ dismissal had really opened up the game now and gaps were beginning to show all over the pitch.
Small was next to test Matthews after the ball broke to him outside the box following a set piece. His low driven strike was well held.
Perth manager Davidson rolled the dice with his substitutions in the 72nd minute, bringing on strikers Theo Bair and Rudden in search of a goal.
He was immediately rewarded for his decision. Rudden initially latched onto a MacPherson long ball down the field and won a free-kick in a dangerous position.
MacPherson’s floated delivery from the free-kick was then nodded in off the stanchion and into the back of the net by the delighted forward. It was his first for the club.
Fifteen minutes remained and St Mirren would level in the 86th minute.
Gogic grabbed a late equaliser for the Buddies by heading home from close range.
