St. John’s Coach Rick Pitino Gave Stunningly Blunt, NSFW Reaction to One-Point Loss

St. John’s coach Rick Pitino doesn’t take losing lightly. Actually, that might be quite an understatement.

Following the Red Storm’s 66–65 loss to Creighton on Saturday at CHI Health Center Omaha, Pitino offered a rather blunt way to communicate his thoughts following a loss.

“I don’t feel good when we lose. I f------ hate the world,” Pitino told reporters while breaking into a slight smile. “Just so you understand that. No, I don’t feel good.

“... I don’t believe in those ‘valiant efforts’ on the road. I feel like I want to kill myself, jump in the cold and die of frostbite.”

Message received, Coach.

Pitino, in his first season on the St. John’s bench, has led the Red Storm to a surprising 12–5 record through 17 games, the program’s best start to a season since the 2000–01 campaign.

Pitino wasn’t O.K. with a one-point road loss to Creighton on Saturday afternoon.

St. John’s had won four of its first five Big East games this season and had a chance to win Saturday, but guards Daniss Jenkins and Jordan Dingle both missed potential game-winning shots in the closing seconds.

The Red Storm return to the floor Tuesday against Seton Hall.
