A fire has broken out at a shopping centre in Wales as customers and staff evacuate the building in the city of Cardiff.

Smoke was seen in the concourse near the old Debenhams store in the St David's complex at around 2pm.

Firefighters are working alongside South Wales Police and staff from St David’s Dewi Sant Shopping Centre to ensure the area is made safe.

It is thought that four fire trucks initially responded to the incident, which took place at Cardiff's biggest shopping centre.

Wales Online confirmed that the store has now reopened for staff, but shoppers are still being asked to remain outside.
