St Cuthbert Wanderers have continued their squad building for the new season.
The South of Scotland League champions have confirmed a number of new signings, including former Dalbeattie Star keeper Darren Holt.
They’ve also brought Kenneth Davis back from Wigtown and added forwards Reece McAteer, Aaron Mooney and Conor MacDonald as well as former Forth Wanderers midfielder Jordan Lynch.
Boss Josh Gardner is hoping to make further new additions this week, including some loan signings.
Saturday saw the new-look side play their first friendly when they took on South of Scotland League rivals Creetown in the Jim Hyslop Memorial Trophy.
And it was the Castle Cary Park side who ran out winners with a thrilling 5-4 victory.
Gardner said: “It wasn’t too bad, we scored a couple of good goals and some of the new boys got on the scoresheet. It won’t be often we score four goals and don’t win. We had seven missing and only three subs on the bench but two were trialists.
“It was quite encouraging even though the scoreline was a bit of a goalfest.”
Saints were due to play Dalbeattie Star in another memorial trophy clash last night before hosting Drumchapel United in their next friendly on July 16.
Gardner added: “The early signs with a brand new group of players are encouraging. There’s lots of positives to take and we have a good base to work with.
“It’s just about progression as a team and progressing week on week.”
