St Cuthbert Wanderers boss Josh Gardner was once again left bemoaning his side’s inconsistency after they lost to Stranraer Reserves.
Saints led 2-1 at the break thanks to goals from John Renwick and Cameron Shaw – only to end up on the wrong side of a 3-2 scoreline.
Gardner said: “It’s the story of the season. We’ve shown in flickers we can compete with the best teams in the league and more than match them.
“We can be doing really well to the point where you think we’re going to win comfortably and we end up losing it.
“I’m not too sure if it’s a mentality issue – there is a consistency problem but what that’s down to I’m not entirely sure.”
He added: “It was a typical game of two halves. I thought we were really good in the first half – we went 1-0 up and had chances to double that lead.
“I wasn’t happy with the goal we conceded but we responded to go 2-1 in front and had chances to get a third or maybe a fourth.
“I was pretty positive at half-time, we were playing well – bar the goal we conceded I was happy
with everything.
“We came out and the defending just wasn’t good enough.
“In fairness to Stranraer, when they got their chances they took them and when someone comes from behind to win 3-2 you have to give them credit.
“It was definitely another weekend where we beat us – we just seem to hand things to teams on a plate and it’s not good enough.”
Saints were due to be at home to Nithsdale Wanderers this weekend but the game has been switched to Sanquhar.
Gardner said: “We’ve not played them before but I hear they’re a fit, organised side.
“I think they lost some players over the summer so they’re a bit like ourselves – they’ll be in transition after losing a lot of players and trying to build a head of steam back up.”
