Following the huge success of Squid Game season 1 and Squid Game season 2, Netflix announced last year that the biggest show in the streamer's history would be getting a third season - and now we finally have a release date.
The news of a third series was revealed on Thursday, August 1, however, the announcement was bittersweet for fans because we also know that the third season will be the final installment.
The first season of Squid Game, which launched in September 2021, became a global sensation with over 1.65 billion viewing hours in the first 28 days. It was also the first show ever to have been watched by over 100 million Netflix accounts in that same time frame, making it Netflix's biggest show in the streamer's history.
But while we wait to see how the story ends, here's everything we know about Squid Game season 3 so far...

Squid Game season 3 will land on Netflix worldwide on Friday, June 27, 2025.
Squid Game season 3 cast
It is tricky to say who will star in the third season, however, in a letter to viewers series director, writer, and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk wrote: “The fierce clash between [Gi-hun and Front Man’s] two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3.” So it is likely that Lee Byung-hun could return as Front Man and Lee Jung-jae could be back as Seoung Gi-Hun.
After watching season 2 we know that many of the cast won't be returning for the final season after they were killed off. However, we can assume that Hwang Jun-ho, pregnant Kim Jun-hee and her ex-boyfriend Lee Myung-gi will return along with Jang Geum-ja and her wayward son Park Yong-sik.

Squid Game season 3 plot
The first season saw down-on-his-luck dad Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jungjae) enter the game and be manipulated by forces beyond his comprehension. One of those puppet masters was Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), a mysterious figure who helps manage the game.
Seong Gi-hun may have proven victorious in season 1, but in season 2 he wanted revenge. Despite the 45.6 billion won prize, he decided to track down the people behind the game in a bid to take them down and end the games forever.
The cliffhanger ending of season 1 saw Gi-hun about to board a flight, but when he spotted the businessman who recruited him at the airport, he decided he couldn't leave.
Season 2 saw Seong Gi-hun then seek revenge from the inside and his mission took him back to the doomed island with 455 new fellow competitors. However, this time he was joined by a familiar face when his best friend Jun-bae (Lee Seohwan) signed up for the games to pay off his debts.
Gih-un entered the games feeling confident with the knowledge that he'd recently beaten the Salesman (Gong Yoo). However, Squid Game season 2 ended on a dark note when Jung-bae was killed by Front Man in front of Gi-hun.
The final scene saw Gi-hun and his friend surrender to Front Man. He said, “Player 456, did you have fun playing the hero?” As he held a gun to Gi-hun's head and told him that he was going to witness the consequences of his little game. Front Man then shot Jung-bae dead. Gi-hun screamed and the guards held him down, forcing him to look at his friend's lifeless body. The board then announced, Player 390 - eliminated.
The official line on season 3 from Netflix reads: "Picking up where the second season left off, Season 3 explores the choices Gi-hun will make amidst overwhelming despair. As the Front Man plots his next move, the surviving players find their decisions leading to increasingly dire consequences with each round of the deadly games. This season promises to push the limits of suspense and drama, keeping viewers glued to the action."
