The violent second season of Squid Game is eagerly anticipated by Netflix fans, especially since we have a trailer now.
The South Korean series, which caused a stir when it debuted in 2021, is returning soon.
For those who didn't see, the show features a competition in which 456 poor people put their lives in danger to play a series of lethal kids’ games in an attempt to win billions.
It earned multiple accolades, including three Golden Globes and 14 Emmys, and became the most-watched series ever on the streaming site.
What do we know about Squid Game season 2?
The trailer for the second season has been released showing champion Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) returning to play again.
Three years after he won the tournament, hundreds of new participants have signed up to Squid Game. He tries to tell them that the money isn't worth it, but they overrule him, and chaos ensues.
After introducing the new players, the menacing masked guards in the trailer explain they can decide as a group whether to keep playing, or divide the money equally and leave after each game.
However, it becomes evident that it's every man (and woman) for themselves when they enter the arena to play the notorious Red Light, Green Light game.
Players are then seen being killed or fleeing for their lives in a montage of heart-stopping scenes.
The “biggest difference” between the seasons and what viewers might anticipate this time around were hinted at by writer and director Hwang Dong-hyuk during the trailer's release.
He said: “If Season 1 was about the story of Gi-hun [Lee], or player no. 456, entering Squid Game for the first time and about how he survives and leaves the game as a winner, Season 2 is going to be about Gi-hun [being] faced with his memories of the first game – the experiences of going through a new realisation, and awakening and returning once again to the game in order to stop this unjust game.”
Will there be a season 3 of Squid Game?
Netflix has revealed that the third and last season of the series will premiere in 2025.
The second season will be released on Netflix on December 26.
