Tottenham weighing up shock £20m swoop for Wales and Leeds United star Daniel James

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing up a deal for Leeds United winger Daniel James this summer.

According to Alan Nixon, Spurs are keen on securing a loan move with a guaranteed permanent £20million option, in a bid to strengthen Antonio Conte's forward options. However, it's believed the Whites would prefer to receive the money up front.

Conte reportedly feels James' searing pace could prove a useful tool in his arsenal of attacking stars, but it remains to be seen whether Spurs will firm up any interest with a solid bid.

Our colleagues at football.london claim James is a name being considered as a potential replacement for Bryan Gil, who could yet depart on loan before the end of the summer. But they claim Spurs have not yet shown any signs of pressing ahead with any approach.

Tottenham's managing director of football Fabio Paratici is believed to be an admirer of the player, but no discussions have been held between the clubs about the winger.

James was suspended for the opening day win over Wolves, but has been involved in both of the last two matches for Leeds, including his first start of the season in the impressive 3-0 win over Chelsea at the weekend.

However, Leeds have strengthened their options in the front line this summer, adding both Luis Sinisterra and Brenden Aaronson to their ranks, and it may well be harder for the former Swansea City star to earn regular first team minutes.

The 24-year-old only joined Leeds last summer, arriving on deadline day in a £25m move from Manchester United. His spell at Old Trafford continues to divide opinion, but Marcelo Bielsa was clearly a huge fan of the Welshman's abilities.

It remains to be seen whether current boss Jesse Marsch feels the same way, although given James signed a five-year deal upon his arrival, it's highly Leeds would look to recuperate the majority of what they paid the Red Devils for his signature were they to decide to sell.

In any case, James wouldn't exactly be guaranteed game time were he to make the move to north London, with Spurs already boasting the likes of Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son, Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison and Lucas Moura as options in their front three.
