Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama to Sit Out Remainder of Summer League, per Report

The Spurs are shutting down No. 1 draft pick Victor Wembanyama for the rest of the NBA Summer League after just two games, according to Mike Finger of the San Antonio Express-News.

The 7’ 3 1/2” forward played twice in recent days to begin his NBA career, first a lackluster performance with just nine points and eight rebounds on Friday, then a more impressive 27-point, 12-rebound performance on Sunday. San Antonio is scheduled to play two more games in Las Vegas, Tuesday against the Wizards and Friday against the Pistons, but the team has decided Wembanyama has played enough this summer.

Wembanyama spent last season playing for the Boulogne-Levallois Metropolitans 92 in France’s top pro league, averaging 21.6 points and 10.4 rebounds in 34 games. The forward’s season in the LNB Pro A went into June, as his last game was in the league’s championship series on June 15.

With Wembanyama’s summer competition complete, all eyes are now on his debut in San Antonio with the regular Spurs roster. The Spurs are set to open the preseason at home against the Heat on Oct. 13.
