Arsenal news: Tottenham scupper transfer plan as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang decision made

At one point, the January transfer window looked like it might be an exciting one for Arsenal.

Dusan Vlahovic was regularly linked with a possible big-money switch from Fiorentina, while Arthur Melo also looked poised to join the Gunners on loan from Juventus.

However, Vlahovic ended up moving to the Bianconeri in a big-money transfer and Arthur is set to remain a team-mate of the Serbia international.

Arsenal supporters will be hopeful the club pull something out of the fire on the final day of the window, although at the moment it would appear only one major departure is on the cards for the Gunners.

Mirror Sport has your latest Arsenal headlines to start off the final day of the transfer window.

Will Arsenal's lack of signings in January cost them a top-four berth? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!

Spurs stop Arsenal signing

Tottenham Hotspur have had a frustrating transfer window so far, although it would appear they are going to scupper some of Arsenal's plans before the deadline passes.

Spurs look set to sign Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus, while they're also said to have made progress on another Bianconeri star in Rodrigo Bentancur.

The potential departure of the latter would leave Juventus a body light in midfield and has seemingly had a knock-on effect on Arsenal's attempt to bring in Arthur on loan. That despite the fact the Brazilian has only made four starts in Serie A this season.

Manager Mikel Arteta was seemingly keen to bolster his midfield options in the window, with doubts over a number of operators in that position.

Aubameyang close to Barcelona

The rift between Arteta and former club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang looks as though it may have a temporary solution.

That's because the Gabon international striker is seemingly close to joining Barcelona on loan for the rest of the 2021-22 season.

Aubameyang has not played for Arsenal since December due to a breach of club rules. He was subsequently stripped of the captaincy and has not been named in a match day squad since, prompting questions about his future at the Emirates Stadium.

The 32-year-old will now head to the Camp Nou though, where he will join a trio of January acquisitions in Adama Traore, Ferran Torres and Dani Alves.

Isak quotes revisited

With Vlahovic now out of the question for Arsenal, it will be fascinating to see what route the club takes in their attempts to improve their forward line in the summer.

Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak is another name that has been frequently mentioned as a possible target for the club, with the Gunners reported to have made him a priority target.

Previously, the Sweden international has said he would like to sample the Premier League.

"I am in a good place at the moment, I am very happy, but one day it would be nice to play in England as well," he said.

"They have six or seven of the biggest clubs in the world, it is a very high level, and of course one day it would be an alternative. Every player wants to be the best version of themselves and reach the highest possible level."
