Spurs 'open direct transfer talks' with Ange Postecoglou £26m top target

Tottenham Hotspur have opened direct talks with Wolfsburg over top transfer target Micky van de Ven, according to reports.

It's claimed the defender, 22, is a priority signing for Ange Postecoglou but Bayer Leverkusen Edmond Tapsoba remains an alternative.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reports that discussions with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg are underway over a possible move to North London.

Previous reports in Germany suggested it will take at least £ 26million (€‎30m)  to land the defender in the summer.

But, that could be less than it'd take to seal a move for Tapsoba according to Romano.

Romano tweeted: "Tottenham have opened direct talks with Wolfsburg for Micky van de Ven.

"Dutch centre back is among top targets.

"Verbal proposal set to be submitted as van de Ven is keen on the move.

"Edmond Tapsoba remains among options on Spurs list — but he’s more expensive."

Postecoglou has already made two signings as Spurs boss with Dejan Kulusevski and keeper Guglielmo Vicario joining the club.

He's reportedly nearing a transfer deal for James Maddison for Leicester too as his summer revamp continues.

After signing, Vicario - who joined from Empoli revealed what Postecoglou told him about goalkeepers.

The 25-year-old Italian commented: "I can define myself as an attacking keeper. It's a different way to see the role but I'm happy with this. The coach told me the keeper is so important with his attacking mentality.

"It's a position with big responsibilities because if you make a mistake it's 99% likely to be a goal. I love this responsibility."
